Who is eligible to buy an Axis Home?

Axis Series homes are designed for people who earn an average Auckland wage. To ensure these homes go to the people who they are intended for the Minister for Housing has asked that buyers meet some simple criteria. Their owners:

  • Must be New Zealand permanent residents or citizens.
  • Cannot put the home in the name of a Family Trust, company or nominee.
  • Must have a household income no higher than $120,000 gross per annum.
  • Will agree to live in the house for a minimum of two years.

Half of the Axis Series homes will be sold to new homeowners who have not previously owned any real estate.

How do you buy an Axis Home?

Most of the homes at Hobsonville Point sell ‘off the plans’ including the Axis Series homes. Due to the overwhelming demand for Axis Series homes, and to ensure fairness, the builders have introduced a ballot system. The people whose names are drawn from the ballot will get the first opportunity to buy the homes they have registered their interest in. All ballots will be drawn under Hobsonville Land Company supervision.

You can reassure yourself that the home you are entering the ballot for is what you want by talking to the building company, visiting their display home and studying plans.

Once you are sure, the next step is to enter the ballot. Here’s the process in a nutshell:

How to Enter the Ballot

Confirm that you meet the Axis Series criteria above. This can also be done by contacting the builders directly.

Download and sign the appropriate Statutory Declaration below with an authorised person, for example a Justice of the Peace. You need to complete one of these for each building company you want to register with.

Register your interest with the building companies and provide them with your signed Statutory Declaration. Check with each builder whether there are any extra conditions to be eligible for their ballot.

Wait for the draw. The building company will tell you when it’s taking place. If your name is drawn you can move forward with the purchase.

Sign the Sales and Purchase Agreement, once your Solicitor has checked it for you. You’ll pay a deposit at this point and the balance on the completion of your home.

Relax, you’ve secured your new home! Now all you need to do is sit back and wait for the keys to be handed to you on time and at the pre-agreed price.
